The book "A Light in the Attic" by Shel Silverstain has come down from the attic in our house and brightening my 5 year old sons nights. I have had this and about four other of Silversteins books for about 15 years. They have brought laughter and delight to all of my children. I was fortunate enough to come across the books when my twins were about 6 when they had a homework assignment to memorize a poem. One of their favorites is:
"The Sitter"
Mrs. McTwiteer the baby-sitter,
I think she's a little bit crazy.
She thinks a baby-sitter's supposed
To sit upon the baby.
I like:
"Put Something In"
Draw a crazy picture,
Write a nutty poem,
Sing a mumble-gumble song,
Whistle through your comb.
Do a loony-goony dance
'Cross the kitchen floor,
Put Something silly in the world
That ain't been there before.
The poems are all appropriately illustrated with very silly drawings.
