Christmas Trees

We had an office Christmas luncheon last week at the Bull & Bear in Richmond. It was a nice to enjoy a relaxed time with co-workers. whom I've come to think of my friends. I brought up the subject of Christmas trees, wondering in comparison how far behind I was not having gotten my tree yet. Some had theirs up some didn’t. Some had more than one tree, which puzzled me and I questioned one person as though it was integration. Why would you buy a 7ft tree and decorate just to put it in your window. It was her window tree and they had another as their Christmas tree. I still don’t get it, I came to find that this is something many people do. Some people have artificial trees that aren’t even green, another thing I couldn’t relate too. Also tinsel is touchy subject, it’s either too messy or not good for the animals. But I like the way it reflects off the lights. I just vacuumed some up today and then pulled it out of the bottom of the vacuum. I started to feel very opinionated and also saw my self as above the rest with my real tree, that a lot people couldn’t deal with because of the falling pine needles. I think just the smell of the pine alone makes it worth it. As we were walking out of the James Center, I admired the large beautifully decorated Christmas tree in the lobby, and one of my co-workers walking beside me said, “You like that tree?”, I said yes it is magnificent”, he said, “the same person that decorated that tree did mine.” I was surprised; you mean you don’t decorate your own tree, what’s the fun in that? Then I felt little bad for saying that and said, I’m sure you have your Christmas fun another way. He didn’t really know what to say back to me, why defend himself to what makes him happy. I realized that no matter what your tree looks like or how you get it or how many you have, it’s your tree just the way you want it and who am I to judge anyone for their own likes and what makes them happy. I feel good knowing people are happy with their trees and that's enough for me.
